The holdings of the Joan Lingard Collection at the Linen Hall Library comprise typescripts of her novels. Joan Lingard is well-known for her series of books aimed at the teenage market dealing with the Northern Ireland conflict. Although born in Edinburgh, she spent her childhood (2-18 years) in Belfast. She also writes for adults and younger children. A number of her works have been awarded prestigious prizes. In 1998 Joan Lingard was awarded an MBE for her services to children's literature. She was nominated by the Education Board for Northern Ireland and also by the Scottish Arts Council.
Lingard is an important author of fiction relating to the "troubles" in Northern Ireland.
The collection consists of typescripts of Ulster novels and a collection of foreign language editions of the works.
