E.N. Carrothers (1898-1977) was born in Belfast. He worked for the LMS railway, and later for the Ulster Transport Authority, where he was advertising manager. He is best known, however, as a botanist and was a very active member of the Belfast Naturalists Field Club. Carrothers was an avid collector, Victoriana being one of his favourites. He was friendly with R. L. Praeger and is mentioned in his book "Some Irish Naturalists".
