Biography/History

<p>Francis O’Neill (1848-1936), a native of County Cork, settled in Chicago where he had a distinguished career in the police force. He collected and preserved Irish music, and published large collections, chiefly of dance music. O'Neill collected the music from Irish musicians, including many immigrants living in the American Midwest, and carried out extensive research, amassing a large library of Irish music books along the way. The collections that he published made a very important contribution to the evolution of Irish traditional music.</p>\n<p> </p>
