Armstrong Family of Lisgoole

Biography/History

The Armstrong’s were a military and landed family living in the Lisgoole area of Co. Fermanagh during the 18th and 19th centuries. Prominent family members included Colonel James Armstrong (d. 1812) who served as ADC to Lord Wellesley during the Indian campaign (1803-5), military agent in Spain (1809 and 1810) and ADC to the Duke of York; Major Thomas Armstrong who also served in India (c. 1825-6); and James Wells Armstrong, who fought in the Crimea. Family land and property was held at Lisgoole (sold in the 1820s), Enniskillen (sold 1830), Gortall, near Enniskillen.
