Murray Family of Broughton (Kircudbright, Scotland)

The history of the Murray Family of Broughton (Kircudbright, Scotland) in Ireland can be traced from 1610 when they obtained a Plantation grant of lands in south-west Donegal. Originally holding land in parcels around Donegal town, Ardara, Killybegs and Mount Charles, by the late 18th century they had extended the family's Irish estate to include in excess of 40,000 statute acres in the Donegal area in addition to the estates they already held in south-west Scotland which the family still retain today.
