Kildare is a dynamic community that is seeing tremendous growth in population. The population has increased in recent year 13% to over 210,000 persons. Approximately two thirds of the population reside in the larger towns of Leixlip, Naas, Newbridge, Kildare, Celbridge, Maynooth and Athy. A large full time library is contained within each of these towns and these libraries act as a network to support 8 part time libraries and a mobile library service. There is also a a Local Studies department, Genealogy Service and Archival Service.
Kildare Local Studies Department has a collection of books, periodicals, maps, photographs and newspapers relating to all aspects of County Kildare.
It is the focal point for local history research in County Kildare, containing an extensive collection of primary and secondary resources, and a reading room with research facilities.
