Belfast Jewish Record

The Record begins as a monthly magazine published by and for the Belfast Jewish community in 1954, gradually reducing to three issues per year by 2015. It offers a fascinating insight into an important but often overlooked community in Northern Ireland.

Issues of the Belfast Jewish Record from 1954-2015 are currently available online:

An incredible resource for anyone interested in the Jewish community in Northern Ireland during the 20th century and beyond. It provides content as wide-ranging as spiritual guidance, political concerns, Jewish holiday recipes, children's interest, theological discussions and a variety of fundraising and social events. There is some very straight talking and plenty of humour, but what stands out clearly is the diversity of viewpoints and the vibrancy of the Jewish social scene in Northern Ireland set against the challenge of a shrinking community.

Custodial History

A complete run of the Belfast Jewish Record was loaned to Queen's University by Stanley Coppel from the Belfast Jewish community for the purposes of digitising and openly sharing the journal. Hard copies are not available to the public.
